Private firm to build 5 hydropower projects on Xieng Khuang’s Nam Khao

(KPL) Xieng Khuang authorities have authorized a private investor to construct five hydropower projects on the Nam Khao River in Kham district, Xieng Khuang Province at a cost of US$168.4 million over the next three years.

The projects are expected to be equipped with a combined installed generation capacity of 425 GWh.

The Nam Khao hydropower projects will be built in a stair pattern as their names will be allocated according to consequent levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 claimed the contractor, as a better way to have water efficiency for electric power generation.

The five Nam Khao hydropower construction projects fall within the government’s electricity development plan to ensure the sustainable development of electricity and efficient use of natural resources for maximum benefits and to supply power for domestic consumption.

The projects also contribute to infrastructure development in local areas, improving conditions for local people, promoting commercial production, and improving the living standards of local people.

The signing ceremony for the five construction projects was held last Thursday in Xieng Khuang Province between Director of the Xieng Khuang Provincial Planning and Investment Department, Mr Maidy Phukduangkeo, Director of the Xieng Khuang Provincial Energy and Mines Department, Sounthaying Khounyotha, President of the Daosavanh Company, Toulaxay Vorachit, and President of B Grim Power Laos, Mr Surasak Punheuangvong.
